Troubleshooting
We take great care to make sure that NEdit functions without a hitch. Still,
problems occasionally occur, and this page is intended to be a central source
of information on the more frequent problems that users might encounter. Of
course it is possible that your particular problem is not mentioned. In that
case check the FAQ. If the problem is not in
there, you can post to one of the mailing lists.
Bugs
If you are convinced you have encountered a bug, you can report it to one of
the mailing lists, but we'd prefer it if you enter a bug report on the NEdit SourceForge page. Be
sure to check the list of bugs for potential duplicates. If the bug you
encountered is already in the list, add your comments to that. All bug reports
are forwarded to the NEdit development mailing list.
Remember to add information on the platform and the NEdit
version you are using every time you submit a bug report. The easiest way to do
this is to copy the information listed in the Version item under the
Help menu
General
- Motif
- There are several Motif library versions which are known to cause problems
when NEdit is built with them, particularly on Linux systems. Please consult
the toolkit page for specific information.
Running NEdit
- RedHat Linux 8 and 9
- Users running NEdit on recent releases of RedHat Linux may encounter
various problems. Firstly, the NEdit binary RedHat bundles has been linked to
OpenMotif 2.2.2, which is buggy. Use the official NEdit binary in stead.
Secondly, RedHat installs locales with UTF8 encodings by default, which causes
problems in Motif. Adjust your locale to use an 8 bit encoding, for example by
setting the LANG environment variable to a sane value.
